ạtė (pronounced eight or aah-tay) was founded in 2019:
From the moment two delusional siblings saw the space where ạtė stands tall in all her glory, they knew this is where magic will happen.
ạtė is our family’s love letter to you.
Food that takes you on a journey, from the spice alleys of the middle east to the land of fermentation in the far east; from the curing methods of Southern America to an exciting take on the classic European flavours and techniques.
So what kind of food do we serve? Beautiful food, no genre, just it’s own DNA. Where else in Nairobi will you find cod fish wrapped in lardo on vermouth cream with green grapes and toasted hazelnuts? Or tuna cured in a Thai & Indian blend, served with citrus jelly and cashew cream on a charcoal & black olive tostada?
Our dishes are unconventional, playful, shaped by immense thought and the desire to push creative boundaries, by the assimilation of tastes and culinary stories from our travels, plus a measure of some good old nostalgia.
The bar duo under the tutelage of the maverick bar owner of Re\Volver, possibly Kenya’s finest bar, create a premium restaurant bar experience where culture, inspiration and classics are fused to make a blend that is uniquely us. In true ạtė fashion, the cocktails play on classics, but also include bespoke drinks showcasing a hero ingredient. In another section, our bartenders’ eponymous originals.
Our kitchen team? A crazy bunch of young Kenyan grown chefs who work tirelessly to bring to life their vision of new age cooking and dining. Add to that the warm and attentive service of our experienced servers and front-of-house.
Our aspiration at ạtė is continual improvement, commitment to local small scale suppliers and dedication to learning. We have travelled the hills and fields to bring you the finest in terms of produce, partnering with some of the best producers in the country, whether it is small scale sustainable farmers or Prime Cuts, known to be the best meat suppliers around.
Come dine in our more formal and romantic glass house overseeing the beautiful garden below, or al fresco on the patio under the black starry nights of Nairobi, or in the lush garden where sunbirds chirp, baby monkeys run up an old acacia tree and butterflies chase one another into a beautiful blue sky.
